This study aims to analyze the types and nature of speech acts used in the interview titled ‘How Does Islam View Women’s Rights?’ conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Amporn Maddent. It also seeks to analyze the audience’s reactions to the statements made during the interview, focusing on the presence of expressions of hatred towards women and how these expressions can be analyzed using Austin and Searle’s concepts of speech act theory. The results indicate that Asst. Prof. Dr. Amporn Maddent used 27 speech acts during the interview, with the majority (81.48%) being representative speech acts. Directives constituted the second most common type (14.9%), while commissive speech acts were the least common (3.7%). No expressions of declarative speech acts were found. In terms of audience reactions, comments on the Facebook page and YouTube channel revealed expressions of misogyny, categorized into three groups: the Anti-Women Reaction group, the Women Support Group, and the Neutral Group. For future research, examining the use of language and speech acts in religious lectures and their effects on audience reactions is recommended. Additionally, exploring the relationship between speech acts and the factors influencing their impact on recipients would be beneficial.
